Kristy Wiese, a partner with Capitol Advocacy, brings over twenty years of experience in both public and private interests to her diverse array of clients. An expert in scope of practice issues, cannabis regulation, professional licensing, healthcare, for-profit education and telecommunications, Kristy is a trusted and well-respected policy and political advisor, with established relationships in all areas of government.
Kristy’s analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills enable her to successfully influence California’s legislative, regulatory and administrative process on behalf of the firm’s clients. Along with developing public affairs strategies for clients, many of whom are Fortune 500 companies, her invaluable knowledge allows her to counsel clients on coalition building and community-level grassroots outreach as well as facilitating bipartisan relationship building with policy makers. Kristy is also a sought-after speaker at association and various organization legislative conferences.
Kristy’s unique experience as a key official and decision-maker within former Governor Gray Davis’ administration has proven valuable to clients seeking experienced advocates to lobby on behalf of regulatory issues at every level of government. Along with her expansive network within Sacramento’s political landscape, she also has advocated for clients before local governments, including the City of Los Angeles.
During the Davis administration, Kristy served as the Deputy Director for Legislative and Regulatory Review at the Department of Consumer Affairs, which oversees California’s forty professional licensing boards and bureaus. In that capacity, she was responsible for negotiating with legislators and stakeholders on behalf of the Administration and making recommendations to the Department Director, Cabinet Secretary and the Governor on a broad and diverse portfolio of pending legislation and regulations.
Prior to her experience in state government, Kristy was the Public Affairs Director for one of the state’s largest non-profit, grassroots organizations, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC). At PPAC she was responsible for developing and supervising the grassroots advocacy efforts of the organization, candidate endorsements, lobbying the Legislature and the Executive Branch of government, and representing the organization in a number of statewide coalitions.
Kristy completed her undergraduate work at San Diego State University and holds a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Sacramento. She lives in East Sacramento with her husband, Kasey and two children, Emily and Jack.
